Dixie State University announced Thursday that its nursing program received a $100,000 contribution from Intermountain Healthcareto create a scholarship initiative for diversity in nursing. The contribution, in partnership with Intermountain’s Human Resources and Nursing departments, will support the promotion of diversity in the healthcare workforce.

“This is a wonderful gift that will provide us with the opportunity to increase student diversity in our program,” said Dr. Carole Grady, DSU Dean of the School of Health Sciences.

Dixie State and Intermountain, through Dixie Regional Medical Center (DRMC), have enjoyed a long-standing partnership. In 2008, DSU opened the Russell C. Taylor Health Sciences Center on the DRMC campus, which houses all of the university’s health science academic programs, and serves as a training facility for the medical center.

“Dixie State University is deeply appreciative of the generous support we are receiving from Intermountain Healthcare,” said DSU President Dr. Richard B. Williams. “We are grateful to have such a tremendous relationship with Intermountain and we are excited to partner with them to help prepare our nursing students to enter the workforce to serve our community and beyond.”

“Leaders recognize the connection between a diverse nursing workforce and the ability to provide high quality care to meet a variety of patient needs in our communities,” said Mikelle Moore, Vice President of Community Benefit for Intermountain Healthcare. “We are excited to support Dixie State University’s nursing program in this important work that will benefit the nursing students and also the many patients they will serve throughout their careers.”
