Dixie State University to host presentation from the Governor’s Office of Economic Development
October 24, 2016The Dixie State University Career Center will host a presentation about Utah’s rapidly growing economy when Val Hale, executive director of the Utah Governor’s Office of Economic Development, visits campus Nov. 1. Hale will present at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 1, in the Zion Room on the fifth floor of Dixie State’s Holland Centennial Commons. Community members and representatives of local businesses are invited and encouraged to attend. "This is a great chance to learn about some the exciting areas of growth for the state and ways that you can connect better with programs meant to grow our economy and local businesses,” Shane Blocker, assistant director of employer relations and internships at Dixie State, said. The Governor’s Office of Economic Development provides business resources for the creation, growth and recruitment of companies to Utah and works toward increasing tourism and film production in the state. Dixie State’s Career Center, which hosts Corporate Nights every semester, traditionally highlights large companies that are recruiting employees and introduces them to the DSU student body. The Career Center assists students and alumni with career experiential learning, graduate school preparation and improving employment opportunities. To accomplish this, the center hosts networking luncheons, employment and graduate school fairs, workshops and career tours. “We thought we would take a different spin on Corporate Night this time and provide an opportunity for the community and the DSU campus to find out the state of Utah’s economy,” Blocker said. “The event is a great opportunity for the community to learn about new companies, fast-growing companies and the exciting opportunities coming to Utah.” To learn more about Dixie State University’s Career Center, visit career.dixie.edu.
