Music Department to present electro-acoustic concert
The Dixie Electro-Acoustic Performance ensemble will premiere music composed by Dixie State University faculty and students at the Music Department’s next concert.
Featuring works composed for acoustic instruments and computers, the concert is scheduled to take place at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, March 31, in the Mainstage Theater of the Eccles Fine Arts Center on the Dixie State campus. Admission is free and open to the public.
“This is the first semester of the D.E.A.P. ensemble at DSU,” Dr. Robert Matheson, Dixie State assistant professor of music, said. “This ensemble utilizes a variety of electro-acoustic techniques, software and hardware combined with acoustic instruments to create new works for live performance. The students and I are excited about this new performance ensemble and the music that they are creating.”
Through offering students active learning opportunities to create their own music, the ensemble is one way Dixie State’s Music Department fulfills its mission to prepare students for professional careers in music, provide high-quality educational experiences for all students and offer cultural experiences for the campus and community.
Led by a faculty of 34 accomplished musicians, the music department offers three degrees: a Bachelor of Arts in Music, a Bachelor of Science in music, and a Bachelor of Science in Music Education.
