Dixie State names new dean of library and learning services

Selected from a pool of highly qualified candidates from around the nation, Kelly Peterson-Fairchild has been named the new dean of library and learning services at Dixie State University. Peterson-Fairchild, who will begin her duties at Dixie State University on July 17, comes to St. George from Oregon Institute of Technology, where she served as the library services director and has worked for the past 14 years. “I am excited to be joining Dixie State University and to be part of the innovative work happening both on campus and in the library and learning services,” Peterson-Fairchild said. “I look forward to expanding on collaborations to integrate our services into the curriculum and improve student learning.” Prior to her tenure at Oregon Institute of Technology, Peterson-Fairchild has been a consultant for LexisNexis Academic and Library Solutions, a library manager for the University of Alaska Southeast at Ketchikan and a reference technician for Southern Oregon University. She has chaired or served on numerous university committees at Oregon Tech and has made nearly two dozen presentations at various regional and national professional meetings. Peterson-Fairchild earned a Master of Library Science degree from Emporia State University and a bachelor’s degree in English from Southern Oregon State College. “Dean Peterson-Fairchild will be responsible for making sure library services has a voice when it comes to providing the resources students will need to support the curriculum as new programs are added. She is really experienced and comes from a technology-focused college, so she is familiar with many of the new degrees we will be adding in the near future here at Dixie State University,” Dianne Aldrich, DSU public services librarian, said. “She is high energy and will be a great addition not only to the library, but to the entire campus.
