Dixie State University official statement on Las Vegas tragedy
October 2, 2017
As the nation processes and mourns the devastating mass shooting that took place in Las Vegas, Dixie State University extends our condolences to all those affected. As our community is closely tied to Mesquite and Las Vegas, we recognize that this is a very difficult situation for many of us. At this time, we are aware of one student who sustained a non-life-threatening injury in addition to many from our campus community who have loved ones directly impacted.
The Dixie State University administration is doing everything we can to provide support during the aftermath of this tragedy. To help those on campus experiencing distress related to this event, the DSU Health & Counseling Center is providing a safe and confidential environment in which individuals and groups can meet with a counselor. Additionally, our assistant vice president & dean of students is helping affected students reschedule classes or secure other institutional support.
DSU also is working with American Red Cross to offer assistance any way we can to coordinate and disseminate information regarding much-needed blood drives.
As a sign of support and solidarity, our students will host a prayer vigil at the DSU Clock Tower at 9 p.m. tonight (Oct. 2) as we keep the victims and their loved ones in our thoughts and prayers.
