Dixie State University’s Statement Addressing DSU LGBTQ+ Student Association’s Concerns

Dixie State University is committed to ensuring all members of the University community feel safe, supported and heard when concerns arise. In line with this commitment, several University administrators met with DSU LGBTQ+ Student Association leadership when the University was asked to address the continued inclusion of Jeffrey R. Holland’s name on a campus building in light of Holland’s recent address to BYU faculty. DSU administrators shared with these student leaders the University’s policies, programs, resources, initiatives, and educational opportunities which foster an inclusive environment for all. After listening to all perspectives, Dixie State University is not considering renaming the Holland Centennial Commons.

DSU has the long-standing practice of not commenting on thoughts and opinions expressed by those in our vast University community. The University supports and facilitates freedom of speech and everyone’s ability to feel comfortable sharing ideas openly and learning from others’ perspectives.
